Y7's experience the tropics ... in Cornwall!

A trip to the Eden Project

A tropical rainforest was the destination for the Year 7 Geography field trip on Friday 22nd January.  In order to reduce our carbon footprint we decided not to go to the Amazon but to visit Cornwall instead.  The hot and humid (32 degrees centigrade!) conditions inside the tropical biome allowed students to experience the rainforest climate.  Students were suitably impressed by the amazing plants and waterfalls; it brought what they had learned in lessons to life.

We saw cocoa, coffee, sugar cane and bananas growing and were able to appreciate how people who live in rainforests make use of the natural environment in their daily lives.

As always the ice skating was very popular and we saw many youngsters progress from railing gripping novices to competent skaters sliding around with the greatest of ease.  After a quick visit to admire the citrus fruits and olive trees in the Mediterranean biome it was time to exit via the gift shop and head back to Devon.  Our students should be congratulated for their exemplary behaviour and positive attitude to learning.
